There are over half a million people living in Santiago, Dominican Republic. It is the second largest city in the island and the place I grew up in. Since I have moved away over five years ago, the city I know and love has changed quite a bit. There is a new generation of entrepreneurs and thinkers changing things up, and most definitely expanding the number of culinary experiences and options you can have there.
Last month I had the pleasure to visit Fresh Burger, a local burger restaurant, to sit down with the chef and general manager Ashley Ciman and learn about the concept and vision first hand.
To give you some perspective, the fact that Fresh Burger almost entirely focuses on one type of dish is quite daring for the public they serve - which is one that champions options and quantity over even fresh and high-quality ingredients. To this, Ashley adds, “We want to keep the focus in one type of food. The customer in Santiago loves options, and not always supports a focused menu.” She is quick to add “Our goal is to maintain the quality and freshness of everything we offer.”
With an open and welcoming space that lends itself well to bigger groups and families, Fresh Burger capitalizes on the warm weather all year round, and prime location with a modern and simple style. The menu features a variety of salads and you guessed it, burgers!, and the offerings can please both meat eaters and vegetarians. The meat burgers are prepared daily with fresh ingredients without freezing or preservatives added.

Desde que me mudé a Nueva York hace más de cinco años ya, la ciudad que tanto quiero ha cambiado mucho. Ahora existe una nueva generación de emprendedorxs que están cambiando las cosas y definitivamente expandiendo la variedad de restaurantes y experiencias culinarias que tiene la ciudad.
El mes pasado tuvimos el placer de visitar Fresh Burger, un restaurante local totalmente dedicado a hamburguesas, donde nos sentamos con Ashley Ciman, quién es la chef y gerente general del restaurante para aprender acerca de concepto detrás del mismo.
Para darte un poco de perspectiva, el hecho de que Fresh Burger se concentra exclusivamente en un solo tipo de comida es bien arriesgado para el público que sirven - un público al que le encantan las opciones y grandes cantidades más que hasta a veces calidad o frescura. Acerca de esto Ashley comenta: “Queremos mantenernos concentrados en un sólo tipo de comida. El público de Santiago es uno al que le gusta las opciones y no siempre apoyan un menú enfocado.” Ella también rápidamente agrega: “Nuestra meta es mantener la calidad y la frescura en todo lo que hacemos.”
Con un espacio abierto y acogedor que se presta bien para grupos grandes y familias, Fresh Burger se aprovecha del buen clima de la isla y de su centrada localización con un estilo moderno pero aún sencillo. El menú ofrece una variedad de ensaladas y, como te puedes imaginar, hamburguesas que pueden complacer a vegetarianos y a los amantes de la carne. Las hamburguesas de carne se preparan diariamente con ingredientes frescos sin procesos de congelación o preservativos.
