Jessica Castro Presenta el 1er Evento de Mujeres Inspirando a Mujeres
It is not often that I get to spend a perfectly sunny Saturday surrounded by talented Dominican women. In fact, as I was writing this, I realized that after many years attending every single networking event or conference I could, I had never seen a Dominican woman being part of a panel. This is very depressing, I know, but after the amazing experience we all had, I can’t focus on that.
I first learned about this Women Inspiring Women event hosted by Jessica Castro through Sujeiry, a fellow Dominican writer and radio host I had been wanting to meet for months. The panel consisted of five Latina women in the entertainment and/or marketing business, most notably including Evette Rios and Sujeiry. This group of fierce and talented women shared tons of actionable knowledge, but what’s even more special was their palpable passion for collaboration.
I feel now more than ever there is a sense of urgency amongst Dominican women to become more vocal and recognized in our respective fields. There's an urgency to do good work, to elevate and promote our culture and to collaborate with other women so that we can reach new heights, and I want to be part of this with every fiber of my being.
I want to connect with Dominican content creators, artists, and disruptors and tell their stories. I want, in any way I can, to open doors for my community in places we might have never knocked before because maybe we didn't think we were worth it, or simply because there was no precedent. There's no role model we can see ourselves in.
We are at a tipping point, and it is about damn time we join forces and take the stage. Our community is incredibly diverse and talented, and I think it is now our duty to make sure more people see what we are about not just locally, but at a national and international level as well.
Here's to many more women-centric and, even better, Dominican-centric events where we can learn, get inspired and connect with our culture and the many wonderful things our community is doing.
No es muy a menudo que tengo la oportunidad de pasarme un perfecto Sábado en la tarde rodeada de talentosas mujeres Dominicanas. De hecho, mientras escribía esto me di cuenta que de todos los eventos y conferencias que he asistido, este fue el primero en el que veía a mujeres Dominicanas siendo parte del panel. Esto es bien triste, pero la experiencia fue tan buena que no me puedo concentrar en ese detalle.
Escuché acerca de este evento, Mujeres Empoderando Mujeres de la mano de Jessica Castro, gracias a Sujeiry, una compatriota, escritora y host de radio que hacía mucho quería conocer. El panel consistía de 5 mujeres latinas, todas en la industria del entretenimiento y/o mercadeo, notablemente incluyendo a Evette Rios y Sujeiry. Este grupo de interesantes mujeres compartió muchos consejos y conocimientos accionables, pero lo que más me conmovió fue su deseo y pasión por colaborar con otras latinas.
Siento que hay una urgencia entre las mujeres dominicanas de querer volvernos más vocales y reconocidas en nuestras respectivas industria. Hay una urgencia de hacer buen trabajo con mucha altura, de elevar y promover nuestra cultura y de colaborar con otras mujeres para que podamos volar más alto, y yo no me quiero perder ni un segundo de esto.
Quiero conectar Dominicanxs creando contenido, artistas, y aquellos desafiando las reglas y estereotipos para contar sus historias. Quiero, en cualquiera manera que pueda, abrir puertas para mi comunidad en lugares donde tal vez ni hemos intentado tal vez porque no creíamos que teníamos lo que se necesitaba o porque francamente no existe un punto de referencia en el que nos veamos reflejados o un modelo a seguir.
Estamos en un momento crítico e importante y ya es hora de unamos fuerzas y nos subamos al escenario, figurativa y literalmente. Nuestra comunidad es increíblemente diversa y talentosa y creo que es nuestro deber trabajar para que más personas vean todo lo que tenemos para ofrecer no sólo a un nivel local sino también nacional e internacional.
Espero con ansias poder realizar y asistir más eventos como este donde podamos aprender, inspirarnos, recargar nuestras pilas creativas y conectar con nuestra cultura y las tantas cosas maravillosas cosas que nuestra comunidad está haciendo.
