Queridas Fashion Bloggers

When I was getting ready to write the recent post #Mujeres I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but I also knew who might immediately be offended by it.

Let me be clear, I truly value our Dominican fashion bloggers and love everything they have done for our local fashion industry. They have given both established and up-and-coming designers a bigger platform to showcase their work and another medium in which to reach the market: the local trendsetters.

When I said “Let's make sure we have more female entrepreneurs and maybe less fashion bloggers” I did not intend for it to sound judgemental. If fashion is your passion, by all means do it, but I hope you also know there is so much more you can do in said industry and with your voice than just posting outfits and aiming to always look perfect on social media.

I’d personally love to see more Dominican fashion bloggers working more closely with our criollo talent, or building a following base so they can create or grow a local fashion business, and even taking it one step further, educating themselves about the fashion industry and working to make it a fair, ethical and environmentally responsible industry in our country.

I hope that my words didn’t offend you or discouraged you, but rather made you think about what else you can bring to the table with your passion and talent, as well as what our Dominican community, and the world, desperately needs.

Cuando me estaba preparando para escribir el reciente post #Mujeres sabía exactamente lo que quería decir, pero también sabía a quienes inmediatamente podía ofender con el mismo.

Si me permites ser súper clara, yo verdaderamente valoro a nuestras fashion bloggers Dominicanas y admiro mucho lo que han hecho por nuestra industria local. Ellas le han dado una nueva plataforma con la cual trabajar tanto a diseñadores establecidos como nuevos, y un nuevo medio para comunicarse con el mercado: las líderes en tendencias.  

Cuando dije “vamos a asegurarnos de que hayan más emprendedoras y tal vez menos “fashion bloggers” no tenía la mínima intención de juzgar. Si la moda es tu pasión por favor dedícate a ella, pero lo que quisiera que consideres y sepas es que hay muchas más cosas que puedes hacer en la industria y con tu voz que van más allá de simplemente postear tus atuendos y tratar de siempre verte perfecta en las redes sociales.

A mí personalmente me encantaría ver mas fashion bloggers dominicanas trabajando con más frecuencia con nuestro talento criollo, o tal vez creando una plataforma de seguidores para crear o crecer un negocio de moda local. Tal vez, tomando todo esto, yendo un paso más allá, me encantaría verlas educándose acerca de la industria y trabajando para hacerla justa, ética y responsable con el medio ambiente en nuestro país.

Espero que mis palabras no te hayan desalentado, sino que más bien te hayan hecho pensar en todo lo demás que puedes ofrecer con tu pasión y tu talento, así también como darte cuenta de lo que nuestra comunidad, y el mundo, desesperadamente necesita más de.
