Just like that, 2017 is over and what a year it has been. Aside from the dumpster fire was this year’s news cycle, it has also been a pivotal year for women.
From the Women's March back in January to new and important conversations being had openly and frequently, we are hopeful and excited for what next year will bring. This month we are focusing on sexual harassment (english) and emotional maturity (spanish).

John Oliver, host of Last Week Tonight, does not usually back away from sensitive topics, and through his honest comedy, his show manages to both inform and educate, in an very entertaining way. In this clip, John Oliver confronts actor Dustin Hoffman over the sexual harassment claims against him, in the kind of frank and direct conversation that needs to happen if we truly want to see any real change in the entertainment industry, and in any industry where women and LGBTQ individuals have been continuously disrespected, disregarded, and sexually harassed. Como el que no quiere la cosa el 2017 ha terminado y qué año ha sido. Además del desastre que ha sido el ciclo de noticias de este año, ha sido sin dudas un año importante para las mujeres.
Desde la Marcha de las Mujeres en Enero, hasta nuevas e importantes conversaciones que se han vuelto más abiertas, estamos esperanzadas y emocionadas por lo que el próximo año traerá. La palabra cáncer no es ya no es extraña en muchas casas Dominicanas. No importa la edad o el momento, este no pregunta, simplemente ataca y lamentablemente no sólo al enfermx, sino también a todos sus seres queridos. Nadie quiere alguna vez sufrir de esta terrible enfermedad, pero la verdad es que este año miembros de nuestra comunidad Dominicana aquí y allá nos han enseñado, foto tras fotos, video tras video, lo grandes que son.
El amor en el video se nota y da gusto ver a un hombre Dominicano hablar con una madurez emocional que no vemos a menudo: Sin miedo a ser vulnerable y con certeza.

Este artículo no es reciente que digamos, pero fué el artículo más leído del periódico El Caribe este año. Su muerte, la cual la escritora Raquel Rosario Sánchez sabiamente llama uno de los casos “horrendos que conmocionan la psiquis colectiva dominicana,” nos sigue gritando al oído todo el trabajo que nos queda por hacer. El texto es hermoso no solo por el impecable trabajo de la autora sino, porque vuelve a Emely un ser humano. La vuelve nuestra amiga, vecina o primita y lo que sentimos al recordar su atroz asesinato es todavía más grande y significativo.
Ahora la pregunta es, ¿Qué esperamos para actuar?
