Write It Down

Escríbelo Todo  

Almost every month or so I have a friend or acquaintance come up to me with the newfound interest to start a blog. These are always fantastic news, as I think pursuing any sort of personal creative project is something worth exploring, even if it doesn't work out. However, their news are usually followed by “I don't know what to write about” or  “I don't think I'm a strong writer,” and I can’t forget “I don't know where to start.”  

The marketer in me usually starts firing questions about audience and type of content they are interested in, but as I work in developing and growing hola, rita. I think I need to start suggesting one simple step: Write it all down. 

I mean it. The minute you launch a blog, the number one hurdle you'll run into is the most important component, and that is creating content. Constantly ideating and producing content, good content that is, is the hardest part and will always, and I mean always, have its challenges.  

So then again, if you want to start a blog or website, just start with writing. Write your ideas and everything that comes to mind - even if it doesn’t make sense at the moment, and have lists (tons of them). Keep these running documents somewhere accessible and constantly refer back to them. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve gone back to my notebook to find writing prompts I forgot to move forward with and that are still relevant.  

Also, you’ve got to commit to write at every chance you’ve got. While waiting for the train, for the rolos to dry, on your bed before going to sleep or at your favorite coffee shop. Keep in mind more than half of your work will likely not be as good as you would hope, but it can be. After all, no good writing happens without tons of editing.

I am personally taking my own advice - revolutionary I know - and writing more. Way more. The truth is, I wholeheartedly believe hola, rita. can become the platform I want it to be, and the only way to make it happen is to keep writing and supporting other great writers.

So go ahead and get that notebook out, or open that word document. Stare at the blank page for a while if you need it, but start typing, and never stop.

Casi todos los meses llega a donde mi un amigo o conocido con el súbito interés de comenzar un blog. Estas para mí son siempre buenas noticias ya que creo que iniciar un proyecto creativo y personal es siempre una buena idea, incluso aunque al final de cuentas no funcione. Aún así, su noticia generalmente va seguido de “pero no sé de qué escribir todo el tiempo” o “no creo que tengo el nivel que necesito”, y no se me puede olvidar el “no sé por dónde comenzar.”  

La mercadóloga en mi siempre comienza a preguntar un millón de preguntas alrededor de qué audiencia quieren servir o qué tipo de contenido les resulta súper interesante, pero mientras trabajo más y más en crecer y desarrollar hola, rita., creo que debería siempre sugerir este paso: Escríbelo todo. Lo digo en serio.

El momento en el que lances tu blog o página, el obstáculo número uno con el que te vas a encontrar es también la tarea más importante, y eso es crear contenido. Estar constantemente ideando y produciendo contenido, contenido de calidad valga la redundancia, es la parte más difícil y siempre, y te digo que siempre, va a ser difícil.  

Así que te lo digo otra vez, si quieres lanzar tu propio blog, simplemente comienza a escribir. Escribe todas tus ideas y todo lo que te llega a la mente - incluso si en ese momento no tienen mucho sentido, y desarrolla listas, muchas de ellas. Mantén estos documentos al alcance y úsalos como referencia constantemente. No te puedo decir cuántas veces he vuelto a mi libreta para encontrar ideas para posts que se me olvidaron desarrollar y que todavía son relevantes.  

También, tienes que dedicarte a escribir en cada momento que tengas. Mientras esperas el tren, mientras se secan los rolos, en tu cama antes de dormir o en tu librería o cafetería favorita. Ten en mente que mucho de lo que vas a producir no va a ser tan bueno como quisieras, pero puede llegar a serlo. Después de todo ninguna escritura de calidad pasa sin mucha edición.

Yo personalmente estoy tomando mis propios consejos - revolucionario verdad - y escribiendo muchísimo más. Muchísimo más. La verdad es que creo que hola, rita. llegará a ser la plataforma que sueño, y la única manera de llegar allí es seguir escribiendo y apoyando a escritores.  

Así que anda ve y busca esa libreta que tienes por allí, o abre ese documento de Word. Mira la página en blanco por un rato si lo necesitas pero comienza a escribir, y nunca pares.
