Event: Invadiendo lo' Paíse'
Sunday was one of those days that at some point I looked around and said to myself: “I am glad I didn’t stay home.” Regardless of the cold and the snow that had just covered the city, yet again one more time, the night before, I grabbed my camera and my dominican pride and headed over to Puerto Viejo, where the entrepreneurs from Tingola, and the artists Poteleche and Angurria, were hosting an event to celebrate dominican culture and art.
The event itself was super laid back, and an environment where you felt welcomed, you could speak your language and everyone understood your jokes. One of the hardest things about moving abroad is leaving your longtime friends and family, so when you are able to find a group of people where the subject changes, yet everyone is still engaged and excited, you know you have struck gold.
I would like to congratulate one more time the Tingola team, Poteleche and Angurria for being professionals and people I am proud to say are well representing our country and culture. We had a ton of fun, discussed many things that bothered us, like not having/knowing about enough events like these to attend in New York, and had some awesome food and drinks (featured below).
The best part of it all is what happens now, after the event. Not only did Chelsea from Chelsea as of Late and myself made incredible connections and panas, I also started working on an idea that will involve you, yes you, in the near future.

El domingo fué uno de esos días en los cuales en cierto punto miré a mi alrededor y me dije: “caramba, que bueno que no me quedé en mi casa.” A pesar del terrible frío y de la nieve, que una vez más, había cubierto la ciudad la noche anterior, agarré mi cámara y mi orgullo dominicano y fuí a Puerto Viejo donde los emprendedores de Tingola y los artistas Poteleche y Angurria tenían un evento para celebrar el arte y la cultura dominicana aquí en Nueva York.
El evento en si fué super sencillo y relajado,uno de esos ambientes en los cuales te sientes cómodo desde que llegas, puedes hablar en tu idioma y todo el mundo entiende tus chistes. Una de las cosas más difíciles de mudarse al extranjero es separarnos de nuestros amigos de toda la vida y la familia, así que cuando das con un grupo en el cual los temas van cambiando pero todo el mundo se siente interesado y emocionado, sabes que has dado con oro.
Tengo que felicitar una vez más a los muchachos de Tingola, Poteleche y Angurria porque luego de conocerlos, me siento muy contenta de cómo representan nuestro pais tanto en casa como en el extranjero. La verdad es que nos divertimos muchísimo, hablamos de muchísimas cosas que quisiéramos que cambiaran pronto, como no tener ni saber de más eventos como este aquí en Nueva York, y nos comimos unos platos deliciosos.
Pero lo mejor de todo es lo que pasa ahora, luego del evento. No solamente Chelsea de Chelsea as of Late y yo hicimos unas tremendas conexiones, sino que también empecé a trabajar en un proyecto que te involucra a ti, si a ti, en el futuro cercano.
